Kaufman County was formed out of Henderson County in 1848 and was named after David S. Kaufman, one of the first members of the Texas Delegation to the US House of Representatives. The City of Kaufman was originally named Kingsborough after the first landowner to the area, Dr. William P. King, but was later renamed Kaufman, when it became the county seat.  

Kaufman TX is located 31 miles southeast of Dallas and currently has a population of almost 7,000.

Kaufman TX is a GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community, which has demonstrated that it meets the living, employment/volunteer, health, entertainment, education and safety needs of its senior citizens.

Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park and Vietnam Memorial Wall of TexasThere are five parks, four area lakes, four golf courses, over 20 churches and multiple community service organizations in the city of Kaufman.  Area attractions include the Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park and the Vietnam Memorial Wall of Texas.  The City Lake Park offers both a picnic area and fishing.  There are 12 major employers in Kaufman that have over 50 employees.  The local newspaper is the Kaufman Herald, which serves both the city of Kaufman TX and Kaufman County.  

Every October, the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce hosts the Scarecrow Festival in the historic town fair.  The festival is kicked off with a parade down Washington Street and features live music and multiple vendors selling food and arts and crafts.

225 homes sold in Kaufman TX in 2016 and their average sales price was $168,154.  This was up 14.55% from 2015.  Homes were on the market for an average of 63 days.
